It was my first time to eat home style India food. My friends said that both downtown India restaurants are modified. We called 'Americanized.' I can't stop eating NAAN!

I needed a coffee break, so I met a person who had a coffee break on Thursday afternoon.

the first sequence assiginment

In order to make a good sequence, what do I need? It was the first question popped up from my head after watching some photos by Elliot Erwitt. The first step was to bring a good idea. This was the hardest part for me, so it took a forever to kick off real shooting.

Recently, I am getting interested in playing with a video, so I want to make something new like a mixture of a still photography and a video. Professor David showed MPW in 71 seconds which were made for 2008 Missouri Photo Workshop. I was inspired by this work, so I decided to try this type of sequence.

I got an idea from a Missourian newsroom. Since I was a reporter less than one month ago, I don’t feel being an alien in a newsroom. Actually, I feel like I need to go to a budget meeting every morning. While I was working on a newsroom, there was a sad new that Sunday Missourian won’t be printed out anymore because of a budget matter since this February. I was predicting that it will happen soon, but I still don’t want to accept this fact.

I think it warns me again that this is a time to capture the moment how a newsroom goes through in 2009. So, I made a theme, ‘25 hours in a newsroom of 2009.’

I still need to shoot more photos to make a perfect sequence because I mostly focused on a movement of images rather than taking an emotion shot. Here’s some photos I got. I’m welcomed to have any opinion from you guys.

the last day of January

I am not sure whether you can't figure out this image or not. It may seems two light bulbs in a dark studio. I am trying to look at the sky at least once a day, but usually I miss it. Anyway, it was a pretty bright night. I found a beautiful crescent and a following star or may be a satellite in the sky. It sounds stupid, but I still wish for the moon.


Today, I wish I won't wait tomorrow's sky without looking at today's sky.

Bird by Bird, Word by Word

I prefer to read slowly word by word.
This type of habit usually allows me to have a moment. During this moment, I apply myself into a plot, but not always, and it happens when I read a book, 'Bird by Bird.'

While reading this book, I'm so ashamed and I want to hide myself like a bride at the start of wedding 10 minutes before. The sudden thought was popped up from my head, especially when I read this part, "writing a novel is like driving a car night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way," from E. L. Doctorow.

I made the biggest mistake while taking a picture story of a victim of domestic violence during a last semester. First, I made a main story even before meeting with her. I forced her into my plot thinking about how I could make a better story within a due date. But, we both felt something uncomfortable feeling between us later on, and she didn't answer my call anymore.

Why do you want to take a picture?
This basic question I used to answer became the most difficult question I've ever had.
I forget the moment I used to catch because I want to make one well done image at one time.

Start with shitty first drafts. That's all I need to do now.

Gentleman

Mr. Kid Bars turned 40 this year. When asked the secret of Kid's old age, Grindler joked that he doesn't drink alcohol and doesn't smoke, but said lots of love and attention help keep him in great condition.


I can say that he is absolutely a gentle guy.

Me,Catalin and Serkan decided to visit Rocheport, Missouri.
Rocheport is a special place for me. When I came to the states four years ago, I had homesick, which led me the deepest depression ever. I wanted to meet river and sea. I can’t explain why I wanted to go, but I heard somebody was calling me from there.

We three had each different view point of Rocheport. Serkan draw himself we say “creepy” in front of cave. Catalin draw himself in a multi exposed way. He seems he is meeting with other Catalins such as finding an identity.

I, Truth, came up with loneness, which I had found four years ago.
I didn’t want to paint too much, but I found my self going to the cave with bare foot.

Susan Meiselas' first major photographic essay focused on the lives of women doing striptease at New England country fairs. She photographed the carnivals during three consecutive summers while teaching photography in the New York public schools. Carnival Strippers was published in 1976, and a selection of the images was installed at the Whitney Museum of Art in June 2000.

Meiselas received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College, New York, and her MA in visual education from Harvard University. She joined Magnum Photos in 1976. Best known for her coverage of the insurrection in Nicaragua and for her documentation of human rights issues in Latin America, her second monograph, Nicaragua, June 1978-July 1979, appeared in 1981.

Meiselas edited and contributed to El Salvador: The Work of 30 Photographers and edited Chile from Within, which features work by photographers living under the regime of Augusto Pinochet. She has co-directed two films: Living at Risk: The Story of a Nicaraguan Family (1986) and Pictures from a Revolution (1991) with Richard P. Rogers and Alfred Guzzetti. In 1997 she completed a six-year project curating a 100-year visual history of Kurdistan. Her 2001 monograph, Pandora's Box, which explores a New York S&M club, was followed by Encounters with the Dani, an account of an indigenous people living in Indonesia's Papua highlands.

Meiselas received the Robert Capa Gold Medal for 'outstanding courage and reporting' from the Overseas Press Club for her work in Nicaragua; the Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University for her coverage of Latin America; and, in 2005, the Cornell Capa Infinity Award. In 1992 she was named a MacArthur Fellow.

Blending is a challenging matter on any subject matter. I assume that blending is a key technique to keep a mood of a situation. This isn’t meant that I do not like using a strobe as a key light. I do like a specific mood made by an artificial light, especially when I met European fashion magazine.

I choose speedy and moving subjects to give this effect. Since I used slower shutter speed on a moving subject, I can hardly handle focusing. In order to solve this problem, I met GTA, and she gave me a solution. "GET CLOSER" I went out again to practice on as GTA recommended to me. and I got closer to him.

The reason why I have chosen this subject is that gives me an idea how fast our live is on a live show.

Well...
Using s right strobe is always challenging especially when I meet unexpected light. During the spring break, I went to Puerto Rico to give a breath. I, of course, grab a camera to get through a new assignment. I thought I read a book a lot, which is related to a technique of a strobe; nevertheless, meeting real situations is always difficult.
